Hershey’s Chocolate New Plant-Based Lineup

Hershey’s Chocolate is going the vegan route.

The Hershey Co. said Tuesday that Reese’s Plant Based Peanut Butter Cups, which go on sale sometime in March, are its first vegan chocolates sold nationally. Hershey also to release Hershey’s Plant Based Extra Creamy with Almonds and Sea Salt, In April.

“Our purpose is to create more moments of goodness for consumers,” a spokesperson for The Hershey Company stated. “We are excited to make those moments more accessible now for chocolate lovers looking for plant-based alternatives.” 

“Younger consumers, in particular, are looking to reduce consumption of animal-based products, says Euromonitor, a market research firm. In a 2021 survey, Euromonitor found that 54% of Generation Z consumers were restricting animal-based products from their diets, compared to 34% of Baby Boomers.”

Aside from the ingredients there isn’t much change made to the treat, the chocolate bars are going to be labeled with a vegan symbol so there is no confusion when purchasing.  (And you’ll want to be sure not to accidentally purchase Hershey’s normal dark chocolate bars, which sadly are not vegan.)
